General Information
ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL
We ask that students who walk, parent transport, or ride bicycles to school not arrive prior to 7:20 am. The building opens and breakfast is served at 7:30 am. Adults are not allowed to park in the timed spots in the school parking lot to drop off their students. Parking is available in the parking lot behind the gym or in the neighboring churches.
Please supervise what your student brings to school. For the general welfare of all, we ask that the students do not bring the following:
- Toys (unless specifically requested by the teacher)
- All pets and animals
- Electronic Devices
- Gum, Food, Soda/Energy Drinks or Candy (unless part of lunch). We strongly encourage parents not to include gum, candy, or soda/energy drinks in their student's lunches.
- Matches, knives, or dangerous articles, as defined by our student handbook
- Unnecessary money
- Glass containers such as water bottles
- Cell phones/ smart watches. If a parent allows a child to bring a cell phone to school, the phone must be kept off and out of sight during the school day. The school is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
DISMISSAL AFTER SCHOOL
All students will be released at 2:15 pm. Staff will only release children to authorized adults. Parents/guardians will need to notify the teacher and/or the office if there is any change to the after school pick up plans before 1:00 pm.
Adults will need to wait in the two car lanes that lead to the gym or walk-up area in front of the main entrance to pick up their students. Adults are not allowed to park in the timed spots in the school parking lot to pick up their students during this time. Parking is available in the parking lot behind the gym or in the neighboring churches.
ONLY AUTHORIZED ADULTS IN THE BUILDING
For the safety of all of our students and staff, only authorized volunteers that have been cleared by the district are allowed inside the building. If you are cleared by the district, you will need to sign in at the office and wear a visitor badge at all times. Contact the office or go to the Volunteer Page for more information on how to become a volunteer.
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
Students are not allowed to bring any type of medication (prescription or over-the-counter) to school in their backpacks. The parent/guardian must bring all new/unopened medication to the school and a parent/guardian must pick it up as well. Please call the office if you plan to drop off or pick up medication (this includes cough drops, vitamin drops/packets, etc.)
SICK STUDENTS
If your student is displaying any primary covid/flu symptoms, please keep them home. Please refer to the When to Keep your Student Home document for District guidelines. Please contact the office each day your student will be absent due to illness or enter your student’s absence in ParentVue.
When to keep your students home:
Guidance regarding when to keep your students home.
MEDICAL HISTORY
If your child has any specific illness, allergy, or other important medical history, this information should be given to his/her teacher and the school nurse plus noted on the online registration.
ABSENCES
Please call the school or notify your teacher before 8:00 am if your student will be absent from school. You may also enter your student’s absence in ParentVue.
The school urges parents/guardians to use wisdom and discretion in dealing with absences. It is important that students maintain a good attendance record. While it is not always possible to schedule appointments outside the school day, it is appreciated when efforts are made to do so.
TARDIES
Students need to be in class by 7:45 am. If a student walks through the entrance doors on or after 7:45, they will be marked tardy. We request that students arriving late come to the office to check in before going to the classroom.
VACATION/OUT OF TOWN TRIPS
If you are planning to have your child accompany you on a trip which occurs during the regular school year, please get in touch with the teacher to determine whether makeup assignments will be required for the vacation interval. Work missed is expected to be made up. Work from the teacher may not necessarily be assigned prior to going on vacation. The standard is that school work will not be assigned until the student returns back to school.
Also, be sure to inform the office so they know of your child's whereabouts and have marked their absences correctly. You may also enter your student’s absence in ParentVue.
LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY
If a student needs to leave school before regular dismissal time, the parent/guardian must either send a note, email the teacher, message through ParentSquare and/or contact the office stating the reason. No student will be released (except to the parent/guardian) without this procedure. Please ensure that the person picking up your child is listed in ParentVue.
If you need to call the school regarding a change of plans for your student, please call before 1:00 pm.
STUDENT GOING TO ANOTHER LOCATION OTHER THAN HOME
All students must have a parent-/guardian-signed note, ParentSquare message, email to be signed by the office if they are going somewhere other than home or if they have a bus change/update.
TELEPHONE USE BY STUDENTS
Students will be allowed to use the school office phone ONLY for emergency situations.
LOST AND FOUND
We have a lost and found at the school. Please label all personal items (coats, sweaters, shoes, lunchboxes, etc.) with the last name. The school assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to personal items. Lost items are displayed at various times during the year in hopes that the owners will recover their personal property. Items not claimed or identified are donated to the NCSD Wichita Center or other locations that can use used clothing and items. Be sure you label clothing so we can return lost items.
FIELD TRIPS
The teacher will email information notifying the parents about specific trips. A permission slip is sent via ParentSquare for each trip.
FIRE, EARTHQUAKE, AND EMERGENCY DRILLS
Drills will be held periodically, at least once a month, during the year. An exit map is posted in each room. During the drills there is to be no running, pushing, or talking. This is necessary to ensure safety, and for each person to hear important directions.
In case of a real emergency, parents/guardians will be notified immediately. Please do not come to the school, unless notified by the school or the district to do so.
